Winner of the 2006 Sobey Art Award. www.sobeyartaward.ca/winners/2006.htm
“Pootoogook’s work challenges conventional assumptions made of Inuit art, and her drawings of domestic interiors and modern outpost camps reflect the disparate social, economic and physical realities of today’s Canadian North. Many of her images are disturbing; addressing issues such as alcoholism, domestic violence, suicide, depression and drug addiction.”

Coming Soon…
Robert Enright is the senior Contributing Editor to Border Crossings magazine and the University Research Chair in Art Theory and Criticism in the School of Fine Art and Music at the University of Guelph.
“In doing research for the essay I conducted telephone interviews with each of the exhibiting artists. Their responses to my questions about their work and the motivations behind it are telling examples of the act of articulation moving towards the art of communication. These conversations form a kind of narrative in which the relationship between intent and achievement, and between desire and reality, is in constant flux.” Robert Enright |
