The Prairie Art Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of art work by award winning artist, Annie Pootoogook. The exhibition is presented by the Prairie Art Gallery and will be on display in the Kin Gallery of Centre 2000.
Annie Pootoogook’s colourful and detailed drawings are profoundly personal and psychological. Her images reflect, in their honesty and realness, the hybrid nature of contemporary Inuit life. In this exhibition of national importance, the artist merges both realms of everyday life activities, such as watching television and going shopping, with social issues such as spousal abuse and alcoholism.
“Pootoogook’s work challenges conventional assumptions made of Inuit art and her drawings of domestic interiors and modern outpost camps reflect the disparate social, economic and physical realities of today’s Canadian North. Many of her images are disturbing; addressing issues such as alcoholism, domestic violence, suicide, depression and drug addiction.”
