The exhibition “Checkerboard and Other Patterns” presents an eclectic group of art works by a variety of Alberta artists. The emphasis is on pattern and colour. By definition, a pattern is anything repeated in a regular combination and is usually made up of elements that are linear, curvilinear, geometric, or pictorial in nature.

This exhibition will provide artistic insights into the use and effects of these visual components. The art works are on loan from the collections of the Alberta Government, the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, and The Prairie Art Gallery Permanent Collection. The artists have used a variety of processes to produce these art works including printmaking, drawing, painting, and mixed media.

This exhibition includes work from Alberta artists John Snow, Katie Ohe, Lyndal Osbourne, David Crockett, Francine Gravel, John Reading, John Esler, Garry Newton, Harry Savage, Ruth Haley, C.S. McConnell, Helen Archer, Bill McCarroll, Julie Chapdelaine, Daniel Campbell, and Michael Burns.
