It seems fitting to celebrate the 20th year of the AFA Travelling Exhibition Program with an exhibition of works by Bill Stewart that were recently donated by the artist to the Permanent Collection of the Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre.

A decade ago, during the 10th anniversary of the AFA Travelling Exhibition Program, the Medicine Hat Museum & Art Gallery produced Block-Printing: Bill Stewart. The travelling exhibition focused on the products of the block-printing technique that Bill Stewart mastered.

Today we have a chance to view a rarely seen collection of works by this innovative artist. Bill Stewart’s keen, analytical eye, his strong sense of design and the passionate expression of his experience in Southeast Alberta are reflected in the paintings, prints and drawings in this new exhibition.

In 1971, Bill Stewart became a member of The Hat Art Club, now in it’s 60th year.
